Sounds of Ireland

An immersive audio experience capturing the sounds of Ireland for use at international trade shows.

From challenge to outcome

Challenge

Creating a sensory experience that could represent the feel of Ireland at busy international trade shows, where most stands are competing visually.

Solution

We went to the locations ourselves and recorded ambient audio, then built a clean, visual site optimised for headphone listening. The interface stays out of the way and lets the audio do the work.

Outcome

A genuinely memorable trade show tool that stands out from the usual screen-and-leaflet setup. The kind of thing people talk about after the event.

Tourism Ireland wanted something different for their trade show presence. We recorded original audio at locations across the island - forests, coastlines, waterfalls, pubs - and built an interactive site that lets visitors put on headphones and be transported there. The site features recordings from Cairnwood forest, Groomsport shore, McHughes Bar in Belfast, Glenoe Waterfall, and a performance of the traditional Irish air 'Thugamar féin an Samhradh linn' by Starlyng. There's even a reading of Yeats' 'The Lake Isle of Innisfree' set against the sounds of Lough Gill. It's designed to be dead simple: swipe, tap, listen, feel like you're there.
