Ballyclare Primary School
A warm, well-organised school website that puts parents first without sacrificing personality.
From challenge to outcome
Challenge
Organising a massive volume of school content (seven year groups, subjects, events, policies, news) into something that feels welcoming rather than overwhelming, and designing for parents without making it look like a kids' site.
Solution
Clean information architecture with parent-first navigation. Quick-access links to the most-used resources (calendar, canteen menu, bulletins) right on the homepage. Class and school news separated so parents can follow their child's year group. Easy content management so school staff stay self-sufficient.
Outcome
A site the school can run themselves day to day, that parents actually use rather than just bookmark and forget. Warm enough to reflect the school's personality, structured enough to handle the sheer volume of content a primary school generates.
School websites are a particular kind of challenge. There's an enormous amount of information to surface: news from every year group, calendars, policies, canteen menus, holiday lists, weekly bulletins, safeguarding info, subject pages, staff listings, wraparound care, after-school activities, and a prospectus. Most school sites buckle under that weight and end up either looking like a cluttered notice board or so childish that parents don't take them seriously. We struck a balance here. The design feels primary school-appropriate with warmth and colour, but it's built for the adults who actually use it. Parents can find the Thursday bulletin, check the calendar, download the holiday list, or read class news without digging through layers of navigation. The homepage does the heavy lifting with quick links to the things parents check most, plus a live calendar feed and latest news. Behind the scenes it's structured so staff can post class updates and news without needing to call us every time.
